I love to know if my models come in handy out there in the wide world, so please let me know by boosting this one if it helped you out!
This magnetised toddler pram puzzle was born out of my own toddlers love of puzzles!
Featuring 6 multicoloured, magnetised snakes that are great for on the go, a retaining bar to keep it all together when not in use and a sturdy loop to attach a strap! Each snake has a different texture and design so is interesting to hold in the hand. They also have a light magnet attraction to each other and metal objects.
Make it easy or slightly less easy by reversing the polarities of the magnets you install. Alternating the polarity of the magnets you place in the base piece, (as long as you ensure to match the polarity in the corresponding snake piece) makes the puzzle a little trickier as the pieces will have to be placed precisely to stick to the base, if not, the magnets will push it away!

Any snake piece can go in any position, so you decide which snakes to print and where they go. The retaining bar is simple, slide over the top, then push either side in opposite directions to skew it and it will lock in place with friction. When puzzle is in use, flip the bar over and slide it on, with the bar against the underside of the base plate.
The strap can be made of anything really, even a karabiner! I just used some strapping and velcro i had already.
Printing Tips:
- Make sure supports are off otherwise the magnet voids will be filled in!
- All pieces have pauses inserted at the layer just before the void gets enclosed. (layer 26 for the snakes, and 30 for the base plate)
- When the Pause occurs, you'll be notified by your printer, then you just insert you magnets, ensuring you are inserting with the correct polarity, then press resume in Bambu slicer.
- I would print each snake individually to ensure you get the polarities you want without a lot of confusion. Printing them individually will also save a bunch of time and filament due to the colour changes required.
Parts:
- 6mm x 3mm Neodymium magnets. Easily sourced. in the UK i got them here
DISCLAIMER: whenever using magnets with children, always use common sense and supervise in use. The magnets in this model are designed to be enclosed under 2mm of plastic so are safe around children. However, always ensure models are properly printed and sealed before giving to a child. Discard a print if it gets damaged to ensure that it does not release the magnet at a later date through further damage. Magnets and children can be dangerous if not managed properly.
