Description

Ergonomic & Adjustable 3D-Printed Laptop Stand

Boost Me (for free)

Every boost I receive truly deserves it's name!  This being my first "real" model, I sunk great many hours learning, prototyping and trying it out ! It's so hype to see people appreciate it ! THANK YOU ! <3 :D

Note: This should be used for normal/work laptops. I do not recommend trying to use a plastic adjustable 3d stand for a heavy laptop (for example if it has a graphics card, of if it is a bit older). My metal stand from work did not support my big laptop either. There are specialty (bigger and sturdier) stands sold online for those specific needs.

Elevate your work experience with my state-of-the-art (that's my first “real” model, dont judge me too hard!) 3D-printed laptop stand, designed for the ultimate combination of ergonomics and adjustability. Crafted with precision (Ish?) , this stand offers a sleek, modern aesthetic that seamlessly integrates into any workspace.

Key features include:

  • Ergonomic Design: Promotes proper posture and reduces neck and eye strain, ensuring comfort during extended use. Seriously, I had back pains before discovering those type of stands, this promotes a decent eye level, but you'll need a separate keyboard and mouse!

  • Adjustable Angles: Customize your viewing angle with easy-to-adjust settings, catering to different seating positions and desk heights. The knobs are really easy to grip and tighten to your desired stiffness! The grip on them makes it much easier than a traditional nut to tighten :  (mostly in PLA) make sure not to overtighten! You may risk breaking the bolts!  The notch system makes makes it so you dont have to do so !
  • Sturdy and Lightweight amd foldable: the notches in the arms makes it so it does no rely solely on friction and of course, being 3d printed, it is quite lightweight, if you were to carry it around.

  • Ventilation-Friendly: The open-frame design of the top enhances airflow, preventing your laptop from overheating and ensuring optimal performance.

  • Easy to assemble : Simply screw it all together, just like in the picture. The little pegs optionnaly go on the top if you want it to be able to tilt and retainn your laptop. I have plans for sleeves and/or other retaining options. If you want to make your own, they are M10, I reduced them to 9.1x9.1 to more easily screw them in. All Bolts are right handed.

    Notes:
     - I wouldnt necessarily recommend working directly on the stand (typing long texts while on a Teams call for example), I personally use it to raise my laptop and use it as a second screen on the same eye level as my main screen with an outer keyboard and mouse.

Working directly on it might save your back, but you're just going to get wrists problems… If you insist on working directly on it and encounter too much wobble, I'd recommend adding weight to the base. I purposefully kept it thin to fit under raised full size keyboards.

     - It is also possible to lay a bolt on its side, to print it horizontally. It will then be much stronger, but less aesthetic. Simply rotate it by 90 degrees and lower it onto the bed until the thread touches it; the part under the bed will not be printed.

    - If you have difficulty assembling/screwing something, I recommend scaling respectively up and down the nuts and pegs, make sure not to modify the Z axis when modifying their sizes, only scale on the X and Y axis by a few percentage points.

Custom print:

If you print it yourself without a profile, you might need to fiddle around with the nuts's size and the retaining pegs, resizing them up and down respectively by about 5% was the sweet spot for me.

As a bit of backstory: My wife basically stole the ergonomic support provided by my work for my laptop. I had a few options... Steal it back and sleep on the couch? Print one? BUY one !? (nonsense!) But there was not one that could match my last one on the free models websites, I just had to design one myself apparently! Many learning/prototyping hours later, I present you my 3d printed ergonomic adjustable stand !

Great print! Modified the pegs holding the device to have "claws" to make it a portable monitor stand. Printed with Eryone PETG-GF which made it look almost professional item.

would be nice to make a version of claw a little bit longer for thicker laptop.

Since they are only linear, you should give a look into slicer tools! It's easy to make some simple changes in there, you can for example, cut a part ("claw") into 3 pieces, move the claw part, copy the middle, move the middle over. Tada, longer claw!

Worked very well thank you! Printed in PETG due to colour choice. Printed the top plate in transparent PETG using 'glass' parameters, turned out very nice.

They're some specific filament and print settings that help minimise layer lines and increase transparency. You can find these settings in the various file sharing sites in plain text form or in the forum of a .3mf I think it's even on BambuLabs website. It just takes a very long time to print

Fantastic design, printed entirely in Sunlu PETG-HF material without any adjustments to the profile. The only minor issue was some slight warping on the bottom part.

I printed mines in PLA with petg only for the bolts, do you think making thicker would resolve your problem? I purposefully kept it thin to fit under raised full size keyboards I could also add little reinforcing bars like i did for the top! Mine sometimes twists when adjusting it with the screws "halfway" (clicking) . Slightly unscrewing and re-screwing the bottom bolts fixes the tension.

I think it because of large cut outs, without them i think will be less twisting, and/or chnaging infill pattern to something like honeycomb or grid will also help with tention

It is when you're using it and not when printing that you're encountering a problem right? If so and if you want to try it, I can make a new version without the holes, maybe with some ribs to reduce lateral movement of the arms ? Printing it in PLA might help too, PETG is a bit more flexible

I adjusted it to have a pair of arms per side and longer bolts to accommodate. I'll let you know how it goes.

Love the design and it's sturdy enough for my laptop. only issue i run into, the pegs at the top failed as head knocked out one of them even with brim, but that's most likely issue on my side and they're long enough for my laptop so i didn't bother reprinting them 😆

There's a profile with pegs laying down! They also have the benefit of being stronger!

I really think it’s a great print and I’ve been using it daily for the past few months. The first time I printed it in PLA, and after a while it started to bend probably due to the heat from my laptop and the weight, which caused my laptop to fall off. I’ve now printed it in PETG and hope it will perform better.

Yeah, if you have a heavy laptop with a graphics card, maaaaaybe ABS/ASA would work, but I'd probably recommend a metal one.

I frocking love it. I printed this for my daughter’s homeschool station.. the black parts are PLA , the yellow was PETG. everything fit perfectly and it is currently holding a laptop with absolutely no issues. I love this design.
