Description
These easy-to-make LED ring lights are intended to be used with the Lumetra Modular Photography Stand System. They can also be mounted on a regular camera tripod using the corresponding tripod-to-ball-socket adapter, also available at the link above.
Most dedicated photography LED rings commonly sold on AliExpress and Amazon cost 50+ EUR, are dimmer than advertised, and too stiff to position at the angles you need.
Making Lumetra LED rings is 5 - 10 times cheaper, and most importantly, you get their full rated light output instead of an underdriven fraction of it. They're versatile and easy to use - perfect for quick product shots, video, or a handy addition to your workbench.
Printing
Print the enclosure in black PETG or ABS, and the diffuser in transparent PETG/ABS. Before printing the diffuser, heat the nozzle and wipe it clean with a soft cloth, then purge a small amount of transparent filament to clear out any residue from the previous filament. This prevents spots on the diffuser - not a functional issue, but avoidable with this step.
Several print profiles are available for different LED ring sizes and power ratings:
- 190 mm / 24 W
- 230 mm / 36 W
- 248 mm / 48 W (with remote)

Once your LED ring arrives, make sure its dimensions match those shown in the print profile picture, most importantly the distance between the mounting points (±2 mm) and the outer ring diameter (+5/-20 mm). If they don't, feel free to message me - I can create a custom enclosure for you.
BOM
- PETG or ABS filament, black and transparent
- Self-adhesive aluminium foil tape, at least 25 mm wide, ~1.5 m length
- 3x pan head self-tapping screws, 2.9 mm diameter / 6.5 mm length
- 3x countersunk head self-tapping screws, 2.9 mm diameter / 8-9.5 mm length
- 1x small cable tie
- Power cord 2 x 0.5 or 0.75 mm²
- Inline cord switch
- Power plug
