Description

Here is a a size-customizable brass threaded insert inserter. It helps adding inserts to your models by keeping the soldering iron perfectly perpendicular to your workbench. It is build upon a piece of 2040 V-Slot and two calibrated 8mm rods. By cutting the V-Slot and the rods to your needs, you can keep the Insert Inserter Mk1 as large or as compact as you want.

 

Bill of Materials

 

Aside from the printed parts you will need:

 

  • 1 x Piece of 2040 V-Slot. Cut to your needs. The one in the pictures is aprox. 40cm long.
  • 2 x M5x8 screws with corresponding T-Nuts to attach the V-Slot to the base
  • 2 x 8mm smooth rods. Cut to your need. The one in the picture is aprox 22cm long.
  • 1 x Surface you can attach the device on. Cut to your needs.
  • 4 x M4x25 screws to attach the base (base.stl) to the surface. Alternative you can use chamfered wood screws.
  • 2 x M5x8 screws to attach the top piece (profile_top.stl)
  • 4 x Slot POM wheels
  • 4 x M5x45 screws with lock nuts to attach the wheels
  • 2 x eccentric nuts for M5 screws
  • 2 x Spacers matched to the height of the eccentric nuts
  • 4 x additional spacers. Ideally like the ones above, but they can be different as well (see Assembly guide)
  • 2 x M3 brass threaded inserts 3mm thick (for the carriage_front.stl and carriage_back.stl parts)
  • 2 x M3 brass threaded inserts 6mm thick (for the profile_top.stl part)
  • 2 x long springs or some office rubber bands
  • 2 x M3 square nuts (for the X-Carriage.stl or X-Carriage-squared.stl)
  • 2 x M3x25 screws (for the X-Carriage_Clamp.stl or X-Carriage-squared Clamp.stl)
  • 4 x M3x10 screws (for the carriages and profile to parts)
  • 2 x LM8UU linear bearings
  • 4 x small zip ties
