Description

Summary

This is a simple battleship (self-designated Endurance-class) with simple slip-fit turrets. Unlike the “Simple Large Battleship” design, the hull is printed in one piece and is about 235mm long, allowing it to fit on most print beds (it fits diagonally across my own A1 mini's small 180mm build plate).

The turrets are printed separately and fit over the top of cylindrical mounts on the ship. The primary large turrets can rotate and elevate/lower their barrels. The secondary small turrets can rotate back and forth.

Both STL and STEP files are provided, as well as the original FreeCAD file (RC2) in case anyone wants to modify or remix this design.

For similar, but much larger (~435mm) battleship design, have a look at my Simple Large Battleship: https://makerworld.com/en/models/997576

PRINTING NOTES:

Print the Ship STL/STEP file.

Print 2 copies of the TurretHousing and 2 copies of the TurretBarrel STL/STEP file (for the front and back turrets).

Print 6 copies of the SecondaryTurret STL/STEP file (for the turrets on the sides). These will benefit from a layer height of 0.1mm (or as fine a resolution as you can manage), since the fit can be kind of tight.

ASSEMBLY NOTES:

Printing the turret barrel part can be a bit finicky. You can print it in a vertical orientation, either barrel up or down, with a brim. Just be sure to clean the brim off, so that the C-profile of the barrel base axle can flex when you press it into the turret housing groove. If you get a lot of stringing and fuzz on the barrels, you can try printing these on their own plate, too. That seems to help for some reason.

The secondary turrets may be a tight fit. If a lower layer height or finer resolution doesn't help, you can try scaling the secondary turrets up slightly (to increase the size of the hole) or scaling the ship hull slightly down (to reduce the cylindrical mount points). You can also try printing all the secondary turrets on their own plate – that seems to help for some reason.
