Having dabbled in NAS for five or six years, experimenting with both DIY and ready-made NAS solutions, I recently acquired a 3D printer and immediately set about designing my own chassis!

Design Requirements:

  1. Size must be manageable (my current rack is full).
  2. Good motherboard compatibility (mini-ITX boards online are exorbitantly priced; the chassis must be compatible with standard ITX motherboards, offering a wider range of choices).
  3. Maintain a compact size while allowing for adjustable hard drive capacity based on individual needs (two or three drives is insufficient; I need to accommodate four, five, six, or seven drives with flexible combinations).

After several days of intense work, the design is finally complete!

Overall dimensions: 241 × 180 × 190.8 mm (excluding cosmetic components).

The upper motherboard bay supports standard 17 × 17 ITX motherboards, using an ATX-DC power supply with an external power adapter (common DC-ITX motherboards like J4125, N5105, N100, etc., are compatible).

The lower hard drive bay utilizes standard three-layer 5.25-inch optical drive bays. Pre-made 4 or 5-bay optical drive hard drive cages can be purchased, or you can 3D print the optical drive hard drive cage I have provided.

Two 2.5-inch hard drives can be installed on each side of the hard drive cage. Under normal circumstances, a maximum of 7 hard drives (5 + 2) can be accommodated.

The chassis is functional as is. If the appearance seems too plain, additional cosmetic components can be printed and installed!
