Description

Summary

OCTOCON is a mind-bending 3D geometric puzzle game! Can you align all of the colors?! Print one out and find out!

Printing It

Choose the Easy Version or the Hard Version
Easy: This version is designed in a way that is easier to solve the puzzle and align all of the colors.
Hard: A harder version. I recommend printing the hard version because it is more fun to play with!

Required Hardware

Assembly

Step 1. Press fit the axle into the center of the right piece of the puzzle
Step 2. Press fit the bearing into the center of the left piece of the puzzle.
Step 3. Press fit the magnets into the right and left sides of the puzzle. Note: Ensure you install magnets so the right and left sides of the puzzle stick together. Assembling backwards will cause the sides to repel each other.

Note: Depending on your printer tolerance you may need to use a dab of super glue to secure the magnets in place. If you need to glue the bearing in place as well (only do this if it is too loose), be sure to only allow glue to get on the outer wall of the bearing.

How to Play

  1. Similar to a Rubik's cube, turn the puzzle to scramble the colors. Flip it back and forth vertically to further scramble it.
  2. Turn the puzzle back and forth, flip it up and down, and whatever else you can do to get all of the colors to align in one ring of the puzzle.
  3. Be creative! If you think of another fun game you can play with this puzzle, do it! If you do, feel free to share it in the comments! I'd love to hear about it!

Credit/Inspiration

I was inspired to take a deep dive into sphericons and creating games with these interesting geometries by Devin Montes from Make Anything. Devin explored sphericons in a Youtube video and has made some awesome hexasphericon based puzzles. I wanted to challenge myself to make a puzzle with a octosphericon using parts from Bambu Lab's Makers Essentials Kit and this is what I came up with!
