D6x2 mm Round Magnet (20PCS) - CA004

Description

This model is designed to enhance our D&D sessions, especially when dealing with flying creatures and characters. I’ve created Tiny, Medium, and Large “cloud” bases to support stackable magnetic columns, allowing you to adjust the height of your miniatures as high as you dare! As long as your miniature has a magnetic base (we use a 10mm x 2mm void in the base to fit a standard M5 washer), you can use as many columns as you need to customize the height.

The solution is surprisingly sturdy, utilising 6x2mm magnets—one per base and two per column. The tolerances are designed for a press fit, so no glue is required. However, the columns are only 4mm thick, making them prone to snapping if bent excessively. Without glue, you can easily recover the magnets if needed.

The “cloud” bases also feature a built-in void to accommodate a standard M5 washer, making them compatible with my D&D Miniature Magnetic Storage Solution for safe and organised storage. Additionally, the top of each base includes a void for a 6x2mm magnet, allowing secure attachment of the columns.

For more versatility, I’ve created a one-ended column with a magnet on one end and a 3mm column on the other. This allows you to attach it directly to a “proper” flying model—simply drill a 3mm hole into your model or create one in Bambu Studio when printing a flying miniature.

To ensure successful printing, I’ve optimised the print profile to print by object. Printing multiple columns by layer often leads to failures or uneven results. I’ve also added a brim to the profile to prevent toppling during printing (a clean build plate is highly recommended for this!).

Overall, I’m very pleased with this height-adjustable solution. Just a word of caution: double-check the polarity when adding magnets to ensure everything aligns correctly!
