Description

DESIGN ORIGINS:

This is a project I designed back in 2017 and tried to sell as a full lamp kit on Etsy but had very little success so I shelved the idea. Since getting my own Bambu P1S 3D printer in 2024 I have been sifting through my old QWIK FURNITURE product line of 3D printed hardware and stumbled on this concept and I hope to breath new life back into the design with this 3D printing community; hoping to see some people riff on this idea and make it better!

ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Cut 1.25" diameter dowels into 4 parts
    1. QTY 2 - 24" length (for the front two legs)
    2. QTY 1 - 48" length (for the top post)
    3. QTY 1 - 19" length (for back leg)
  2. Insert dowels into 3D printed connector
    1. Dowels may need to be sanded down slightly due to factory tolerance issues to assure tight fit into 3D part
    2. Glue may need to be used if dowels appear to be too loose in 3D printed connector
  3. Drill hole or cut notch into the top of the 48" top post to allow pendant light cord to fit snug into the dowel
  4. Dowels my be stained and/or clear-coated if you wish to achieve a customized modified design

THINGS THAT (I THINK) CAN BE IMPROVED:

  1. The connection of the pendant cord on the wood dowel; I do not like that you need to drill a hole or cut a slot into the wood. I think this would be a great opportunity to design a 3D printed connector that slips over the tip of the 48" post that holds the pendant cord. I designed a few in the past but I did not like they way they looked and felt too chunky with the overall aesthetic of the lamp.
  2. The lampshade from Color Cord Co. has SIGNIFICANTLY increased in cost since I started the project in 2017 so finding an alternative shade OR designing a cool 3D printed lamp shade would be a great modification to reduce the cost of the project.
