Description
The SS United States luxury liner, also known as "the Big U," is a legendary vessel with a rich history, a true star in the annals of global maritime transport. Launched in the 1950s, this liner was renowned for its exceptional speed and opulent luxury. Powered by engines originally from the USS Illinois, the fifth ship of the Iowa-class battleships, she achieved a cruising speed of 36.5 knots and a top speed of 43 knots, winning the coveted Blue Riband, a symbol of transatlantic supremacy. Beyond her speed, the SS United States boasted an elegant exterior and lavish interior, establishing her as a masterpiece in the history of ocean liners. Today, the era of grand ocean liners has passed, and the SS United States is no longer in service. This iconic vessel, a testament to American maritime prowess and engineering excellence, rests quietly in a Philadelphia dockyard, awaiting its transformation into a museum and a renewed lease on life.
This 1:2000 scale model of the SS United States measures 15cm in length and faithfully recreates nearly all of the original ship's signature features, boasting exceptional precision. It's designed for single-plate printing and requires no assembly. Due to limitations with my single AMS Lite unit, the color scheme is simplified to black, white, gray, and silver, ensuring compatibility.
I printed this model using a standard 0.4mm nozzle and a high-precision 0.08mm layer height setting. The print took 13 hours, though the extended duration resulted in a flawless final product. For those short on time, a 0.2mm layer height is also viable. Caution is advised when removing the tree supports from the bridge and smokestacks to prevent deformation.
