Description

No more stuck buckets! Especially if you're a fellow fan of collecting Harbor Freight buckets, then you know you need this. Throw this in between each bucket before you put them away, and they won't get stuck. Just a wiggle and it comes out.

Why I made this:

I keep collecting more buckets and when I stack them, they become stuck. I don't like that. I don't want to pop an artery or dislocate my shoulder taking them apart. You could throw anything in there to keep 2 buckets apart, but they get wobbly. Especially if you have more than a few buckets in a stack. This is flat so it stays stable!

How does it work:

I figured there must be a way to relieve the vacuum / air pressure situation by keeping the bucket bottom separate from the other bucket - and thus, I spend too much time CAD-ing as some people on Reddit would complain about.

  • I designed this separator in a way that there is no wrong way to put it in. Toss it in the bucket and stack another bucket on top. That's it. It is deliberately sized so that it won't stay up on one side, and super easy to take out.
  • Both sides are designed symmetrically so that it will always be the correct side up.
  • The honeycomb ridges are designed to support weight so if you do end up storing stuff in the top bucket, that's fine. Or lots of buckets. The top of the honeycomb ridges are chamfered in such a way that there is air pressure relief even on the small contact patch. And I deliberately put in too many because redundancy means if some of the ridges get flattened over time, you don't have a stuck bucket.
  • Designed to fit any 5 gallon bucket

How to print this:

  • I've set the overhang speed fairly slow so please do not raise the speed. Any faster, the adhesion might become and issue.
  • If you want to scale this up for larger buckets, I would suggest you don't because you don't need to fill the whole bucket bottom surface area. In fact, this is deliberate so that the separator is easy to remove, and there is more air gap between the buckets.
  • Printed using PLA and supports enabled. I recommend using a textured plate for better results as the initial layer can be a bit difficult with the amount of overhangs.
