Outlet Cover
QUICK NOTE (Please Read):
DO NOT tamper with any of the settings I have selected in Bambu Studio!
I have carefully optimized both print profiles to achieve the best balance of strength and appearance. Adjusting these settings could compromise the durability and quality of the final product.
WARNING:
THERE IS A RISK OF THE PRONGS BREAKING OFF INSIDE YOUR OUTLET!!! TO AVOID BREAKAGE, BE GENTLE WHEN REMOVING AND TRY USING STRONGER AND FLAME-RETARDANT FILAMENT! (I would recommend using the second print profile as it uses a different printing orientation!)
This 3D-printed outlet cover features convenient slots on the left and right sides, making it easy to remove without the need for tools. Its snug fit ensures it stays securely in place, preventing little hands from tampering with it. At the same time, it’s designed for adults to remove effortlessly when needed. Perfect for maintaining safety without compromising convenience.
What’s the Difference Between the Two Printing Profiles?
I’ve designed two printing profiles for this outlet cover to suit different needs:
1. Outlet Cover - Printed Laying
This method prints the outlet cover starting from the large cover surface to the top of the prongs. It does not require any support material.
PROS:
- Quicker and cheaper to print.
- No support material is needed.
CONS:
Layer lines run parallel to the prongs, which can create a weak point if subjected to extreme force.
However, in my experience, it takes significant force to snap the prongs at the base. To mitigate this, I’ve added a small brim at the base to strengthen this area and greatly reduce the risk of breakage.
2. Outlet Cover - Printed Standing
This method prints the cover from the smaller bottom edge to the top edge. Support material is required to print the prongs properly.
PROS:
- Extremely durable—prongs will not break, even under force.
CONS:
- Longer print time.
- Uses more material, making it more expensive to print.
Note: This cover is specifically designed to fit NEMA 5-15 outlets, which are the standard in U.S. households.
