Thank you for having a look at this design I have created.
I spent most of the spring of 2024 creating almost all of the USN rating insignias into multi-colored coasters and plaques.
Quite a few hours were spent trying to find the insignias themselves. Then converting them into usable formats to create the models.
This is the first one I am rolling out and it happens to be what I did while I was in the Navy.
If you have a particular rating you would like for me to publish, please message me or comment here and I will prioritize accordingly.
There are 2 designs within this:
A coaster set. Which includes a sectional view of the middle of a nuclear submarine to house the coasters, quite a few can be berthed.
The coaster is 90mm in diameter and 5mm thick. Only the first 3 layers are multicolor, then there is a .2mm thick blue sealing backer followed by the 4.2mm thick backer.
The 4.2mm thick backer can be any color you choose, it defaults to gold.
This can be sized up to a larger diameter, be mindful of the layer height when scaling up, best to keep Z at 5mm. The submarine holder can be printed without supports but I found it comes out cleaner with a small amount of supports so I included that in the profile.- A Wall Plaque with Ships Wheel.
A 245MM diameter wall plaque with a four part ships wheel to surround the plaque. This requires the larger print bed of 256x256.
The first 4 layers are multicolor with the plaque, then a .4mm blue and then black to 15mm, no need to waste colorful filament when this part will be hidden.
Not as much tuning was needed for this profile but be mindful of whisps like a light box.
This can be scaled down to your size preference, keep Z the original height for best results. Same applies to the ships wheel parts.
Do not split the models into objects or parts, this will put everything on the bed, some layers are floating within the assembly and need to remain where they are.
All you need to do is assign you filament colors and slice. I spent a lot of time dialing in the profile for these and changes in any area will affect the outcome. I also calibrated all the filaments for these coasters, you may want to do that for best results.
To achieve the fine lines with a 0.4mm nozzle under-extruding had to be used for the Coasters. If you have issues with the profile I recommend using a 0.2mm nozzle and the provided 0.2N profile, your print times will increase.
Recommended filaments are low TD values, Matte and Silks work well.
Wash your build plate and apply an sticky layer (Nano Polymer works well), you will have issues if you don't. The first layer on the coaster is .2mm thick and .2mm tall, there is not much room for error.
Let me know if you have any questions
I hope you enjoy these models.
