Microphone Prop

Bill of Materials
Description
I needed 5 microphone props for a theatrical production and the director wanted those classic shiny Shure 55 microphones. The stands are ½" PVC pipe and the parts for those are included. Just add a 3/8" bolt and plywood base to make those too.
For the mics, I found a free 3d model of a Shure 55 microphone for render and converted it into a 3d printable version that can be used with a standard 3/8" course bolt.
The “back” of the head piece has some thin sprue connectors between the fins. I had to add these because even with support at the highest point they started to get pushed around and caused some layer shifts. Just cut them off with flush snips or a blade to finish.
This model requires the use of one M6 x 20mm bolt and nut (or equivalent) to attach the upper and lower parts. The screws on the front are #6 ½" pan head sheet metal screws. They do attach the label but provide no other function use.
I included 2 versions of the lower part of the microphone. One has modeled threads that accept a 3/8" screw that is common for microphone stands. The other has a larger hole for using a 3/8" threaded insert. I found the ones I used at Home Depot. I used a soldering iron to heat it up enough to be able to melt the plastic around the hole and lock it in place. I didn't trust the plastic threads to be robust enough for stage, but your needs may vary.
This is my first model publish. Hopefully you can find this useful too.
