Description

I'm not a Chess Player but I like to design Chess Pieces, this is my version 4 my latest design and by far my best set of Chess Pieces.

A friend wanted me to design and 3D print a Chess Set so I decided to design this version, I strive to design the pieces with no support as I feel it spoils the pieces whichever way you try to remove it.

The King is 95mm to the top of the cross, with all other pieces scaled from that.

The pieces are in 5 circular segments and they have come out way beyond my expectations, printed with the BambuLab White Marble and Black Sparkle(See the Photos)they look exquisite from a non chess players point of view of course = me.

The cross on top of the King also prints with no support, there is a tiny piece of stringing to the underside of the cross, just pull these off with some tweezers, this far out ways using support or printing the cross separately.

The only pieces which need support and Iv'e kept this to a minimum are the Knights, these are in 2 parts the bases are printed on build plate 1

and the heads on build plate 2 I've used minimal tree supports and they usually come away when removing the part from the build plate, or just remove after printing with little or no clean up.

The Knights head is a snug push fit onto the base and can be glued for a more permanent fix.

I have added the full set to the slicer on the 2 build plates, as I'm printing the full set for a friend.

With this version I have also added a recess for a 10mm nut in the base to add weight to the pieces, this prints very well with no support, the recess is 7mm depth the nuts I purchased are 6.27mm depth and 16.52mm across the flats these are a snug push fit and pushed in level so a felt or cork pad can be cut and fitted to the base of each piece.

I'm extremely pleased with how these Chess Pieces have turned out and thoroughly enjoyed the design process as well.

Printed with the BambuLab X1C on a textured PEI Plate which is my go to build plate these days unless I need a model with a smooth finish.

As always, Thanks for Looking.
