Small Animal Live Trap

A green cage with a black object on top

This model is for those of you that have problems with small animal control like chipmunks. Those little devils cause me a lot of damage around the exterior of my house. They dig tunnels everywhere and do structural damage. I have created a printable small animal trap that can be baited and then left until there is a chipmunk that decides to take the bait… Once captured they can be relocated or disposed of in some other humane manner.

The trap is made up of two main parts, an upper and a lower half to allow the overall trap to be large enough. The bottom half supports a teeter-totter type triggering mechanism that will pull out a support chock that keeps the gate open.

The top half has a compartment for the bait that is isolated from the main compartment and concealed by a sliding cover.

Also, on the top half there are slots for the gate, the triggering string, and for a locking mechanism. The locking mechanism will prevent the gate from being opened after the trap is triggered. Clips are provided to prevent the top half and the bottom half from being separated also.

The locking mechanism is placed into the top half through the slot on the left front as shown:

You will need to run a string (any small string or cord) through the bottom side of the top half and through the slot.

Tie one end to the hole in the trigger and the other end to the gate chock. It is a little tricky to get the length just right, too long and the chock will not be pulled out of the gate’s slot, too short and you will not be able to get it inserted into the gate slot. It will take a little trial and error to get this part just right, but that should be the only difficult assembly step.

Happy Hunting!!!
