Description

Boost Me (for free)

Designing and testing this case took a little longer than expected, though I am pretty happy with the end result. Additionally I have chosen to open source this model by releasing the STEP files for this design so you can modify it to fit your needs and benefit from my work. If you end up printing this model please leave a comment and consider boosting it!

This case is designed to house the Raspberry Pi 5 with the official M.2 HAT+ and SSD. While I only have the SSD version, it should also work with the AI accelerator.

I started designing this case because I couldn’t find one for this precise combination. Most Pi + SSD cases are designed for Pimoroni’s or Waveshare’s hats, and somehow don’t work with the M.2 HAT+.

Because the M.2 HAT+ monopolizes the mounting points traditionally used for cases and other mounting solutions, this case is designed to passively hold the Raspberry Pi and its hat in place without requiring these mounting points. To achieve this, we use the pressure of the case’s cover and some small holding structures within the structure of the case itself.

This is a screw less design, the cover uses a press-fit design via two notches designed within the case to stay in place. You will need to push the Raspberry Pi into the case as the fit can be quite tight. This case has been tested with PLA which allows the walls to slightly bend when pushing the Raspberry Pi in before getting back into place.

For convenience, a small hole has been added to the see the Raspberry Pi status led, as well as a couple vents for airflow.

While printing with supports for the side ports is recommended, you should be able to go without. If using support, it is best if you can sand the attachment points so they don't get on the way of your connections.
