Description
Shuriken is a generic term in Japan for throwable hidden weapons, meaning weapons that are not retrieved after being thrown. Shuriken are classified into rod-shaped shuriken and car-shaped shuriken. Rod-shaped shuriken can be single-pointed, commonly known as flying needles, or double-pointed, known as senbon.
Car-shaped shuriken, commonly called ninja darts or, in China, meteor darts, have 3 to 8 points and fly in a spinning motion. Rod-shaped shuriken are lightweight and easy to make, but difficult to use, requiring extensive practice to achieve proficiency. Skill level directly impacts range and accuracy. Domestic practitioners of rod-shaped shuriken have formed an online hidden weapon league dedicated to promoting their use and technique.
