Description

I'm in the midst of organizing my desk drawers. Naturally, Gridfinity was my ecosystem of choice for this job. Thanks Zack for coming up with the concept!

Yes, there are tons of options out there for cable organization bins, especially in the Gridfinity world - believe me, I looked at a TON of them. Some were too tall for my Ikea Alex drawers, others were shorter than I'd like, others have strange patterns cut into the dividers in an effort to save filament (often at the expense of longer print times), some have small cutouts of all shapes and sizes across the top to give room for fingers to grab the cables.

See how many options there are? I really liked the combo of a smooth slope cutout with solid dividers in a height that maximizes my drawer space, which I just couldn't get. So, off the Fusion and the Gridfinity bin generator plugin. These bins are N x 2 x 9, without stacking lips. I sketched my cutout on the end face and extruded it through the bins. If you'd like to adjust your cutout, feel free to play with that in the attached Fusion archive and/or STEP file.

The prints shown were done in eSun's ePLA-Lite. Having received a roll of it for free as part of a Black Friday deal and finding it worked well for Gridfinity jobs like this, I snagged another 10 kilos of it for $10/roll. Let's just say 2025 is going to be the year of printing organizational stuff!

Update (Jan 3, 2025): Message received, guys. I added a profile with a set of bins that includes stacking lips. I'm (personally) not in love with the standard stacking lips on these, but while I'm pondering a better way to achieve stacking, you can definitely have these bins with lips now!

Update (Jan 9, 2025): By request, I've added a set of bins with wider compartments. For the wide slots, instead of each cable slot consuming 1/2U of space, each slot now consumes 2/3U. Naturally, the math only makes sense with even numbers, so only 2, 4, and 6U sizes. Thanks @Flamebullet for the request!

Update (June 12, 2025): By request, I've created bins that have a mix of wide and narrow slots!

Update (Oct 2, 2025): I just added some new configurations of the mixed-width bins. These new models use a side-by-side setup. All wide slots on one side, all narrow slots on the other.
