Flip Top: The Magical Spinning Top That Flips Itself
Print Profile(1)

Description
The FlipTop, also known as a Tippe Top, is a unique spinning top that defies gravity and captivates observers. When spun, it initially behaves like a conventional top, but after a few seconds, it undergoes a remarkable transformation: it flips, inverting itself onto its apex, and continues spinning with its base facing upwards.
Mechanism
- Unique Form: The top's base is curved, while its apex is flat. This design is crucial for the inversion.
- Rotation: When launched, frictional forces and angular momentum interact, gradually shifting the center of gravity.
- Inversion: Once the center of gravity surpasses a certain threshold, the top flips, continuing to rotate on the opposite end.
Considerations:
- High-Speed Rotation: The top must be spun at high velocity; this may require some practice initially.
- Do Not Modify the File: Considerable time and experimentation were invested in achieving the optimal balance of weights and dimensions. Modifying the file is at your own risk.
- Material: The design utilizes PETG, but PLA should be equally suitable, and you should encounter no issues. If anyone prints the top in PLA before me, please let me know if it functions correctly via private message.
I hope you enjoy the project!
