Description

Summary

Completely rebuild and redesign the 3D Mini Fountain Pen (Kaweco 060, Bock #5 Nib 060 180 076) with Fusion 360.

Notes:
May need to add X-Y hole compensation to fine tune the size of the threaded hole depended on the filament meterial.
In my Print profiles, I add 0.15mm when printing the barrel and cap.

Provided two Print Profiles for selection

Rough Surface: Use random seam positions to eliminate seams but produce a rough surface

Smooth Surface: Implemented Scarf Seam to reduce the visibility of seam on the Section and Barrel

If you want to use bottled ink with converter, you can use the barrel of my Mini2 Rollerball Pen, it is compatible with the fountain pen and a bit longer that can fit in the mini converter.

The print looks awesome. the size seems right. Do you super glue the nib unit or is it expected to thread in? I’d prefer threads if it’s reasonable. that way I can exchange nib units.

The nib part is threaded and you can replace the nib by just unscrewing it and replacing it with a new one. BTW, please give a rate to your print if you like it.

will do. the threading isn’t working. I’m going to try teflon tape. I think the threads are just a little to small to bite.

it won’t let me rate the print since I started the reprint from the printer itself. now I know. I’m going to look up the x-y hole compensation you mentioned. That may be my threading issue.

Works great! It would be really cool to have a version that allow for converters too for those of us who like to use bottled ink. Overall, great design!

Thanks for the boost. If you want to use the converter, you can use the barrel of my Mini2 Rollerbal Pen, it is compatible with the fountain pen and a bit longer that can fit in the mini converter. It only uses the smaller cartridges. This is a solid choice: https://a.co/d/fCs9TSb. You want to make sure it is a "Short standard" cartridge. The converters do not work with this print as it stands right now. But the OP said that you can use one of their other models to adapt this one to take cartridges if you'd like

love this pen but would like to make these changes: reduce amount of threads to make unscrewing faster , and mimic the Kaweco sport posting method so you only need to unscrew and push the cap on

I completely agree with you. I've been wanting to improve this for a while, just waiting for someone to give me a push. Thanks.

The work you've already done is great, I think with those small tweaks, would make this a serious competitor to the kaweco sport, and it already uses kaweco nib unit. Please let me know if you publish an updated model, got plenty of boosts waiting

You'll have to wait a while as I'm on vacation and won't be able to finish the update in October. You'll be the first to know when the updated model is ready.

Printed the section to see if I could make it work in another model I have. No luck, but that's not the fault of this model at all! Looks like a good pen model overall!

Which model of Nib do you have. If I have the drawing of the Nib, I may able to make another version for it.

It's actually a Kaweco Sport nib unit that comes with the front section included, like in this picture. I want to be able to print that front section so it can match the rest of my pen model :) Since yours is for a Kaweco I thought there was a chance it might fit, but it's a different shape. Is the nib inside the Sport nib unit an 060? If you can help, that would be wonderful. The only one of these nib units I have right now is damaged so it's hard to measure anything.

Do you mean that the Grip Section of your Kaweco Sport was broken and only the Nib and Feed was left? It is possbile to rebuild the Grip Section but I don't have the item or its drawing to replicate. Can't help you this time.

hi hargo, i printed your model 2 times and both times it broke within a day at the threads. please fix this cause i have a very expensive nib unit just sitting around now

Are you talking about the threads on the Section? What type of filament you are using? If the connection between the Section and the Barrel is too tight, the threads may break if you iinstall it with extra force. You can increase the X-Y hole compensation setting when printing the Barrel.

i'm using PLA, the barrel and section failed in PETG, and I even lubed the threads before installing

Try to increase the x-y-hole compensation for the section from 1.5 to 2.5 to see if it can help. Adding lubricant is not the best solution.

have you thought about making a version using the more common bock 180. this looks awesome. :)

I can build the section for it but I don't have the nib on hand to measure and test. Do you have the drawing of the Bock 180 nib?

Too kind. I just realized I may have the 060 nib. I’m excitedly printing your design right now! I have the nib that fits the liliput. if I run into issues, I’ll find the specs and images and upload them. thank you so much. I’m super excited!

Excellent print quality overall. I printed the model in translucent transparent PETG with very good surface results. The main issue I encountered is that the nib became permanently seated in the nib holder and cannot be removed. When attempting to unscrew it, the nib assembly itself comes apart instead of separating from the nib holder. This may be related to tight tolerances or PETG’s tendency to grip, and a slightly increased clearance or chamfer could help. Initially, I also tried printing all build plates in a single job, but several parts detached from the bed. I later printed each build plate separately, which resolved the issue. This was my mistake, as each part is designed for a different build plate setup.

Thank you for your comment. If the nib is too tight, you can reprint it by increasing the X-Y hole compensation value by 0.1. To remove the nib from the existing section, simply soften it with hot water. Reprinting only need an extra 2 grams of filament. You also need to print individual parts on different build plates, especially if you are using an A1mini (or A1) printer like I am. Furthermore, printing one part at a time will result in better surface quality.

These are so cool I have some #5s coming in to test them out, but they look and fit great. I used 100% infill and .08mm layers from a .4mm nozzle. Didn't take much extra time and came out great.

Thank you for your rating. The Mini2 was my everyday fountain pen, but I recently switched to its upgraded version, the M3. I reduced the threads on the M3 so I could easily unscrew the cap. I also replaced the screw-on cap with a push type. You can also download it from the link below. https://makerworld.com/en/models/1936635-m3-combo-pens-set-with-travel-case#profileId-2079528
