Description

Player boards for Terraforming Mars board game. The original design by Samurai57 is mainly intended for multicolor prints and the single color version has a few issues with printing the letters (see the images). Those issues have been fixed in this remix.

My changes are only to the topside piece of the single color version, print one of these for each player (personally I would recommend an absolute maximum of four players for this game). I have also included the original backside and PDF print files in this upload for the sake of convenience… print also one of these for each player. I've had best results with the PDF-file when printing from Acrobat Reader instead of directly from the browser. I've used “Custom scaling: 100%”, but this user reported having the best results with 102.75% scaling. YMMW. Also, use photo paper for printing the PDF for even nicer result.

No supports or brim required. The topside plastic piece can also be printed upside down in order to get a different finish on the visible surface. I printed with matte PLA filament, which is probably best in terms of looks, but anything else probably works also. The plastic pieces may hold together even without any glue… depending somewhat on the filament and settings/calibrations of the printer. In any case; few drops of super glue probably won't hurt.

I wish people would read the description. The designer included a PDF file of the player mat that will work with this overlay. It won’t work with the one included with the game. I printed the PDF on matte photo paper with an older HP inkjet printer (at 100%, no scaling) and used a paper cutter at work to get straight edges for the cutout. I included a photo to show you the difference with the printed PDF file versus the one that comes with the game (it’s in the lower right-hand corner of the photo). Also notice how much brighter and richer my printed version is. The one included with the game has dull colors and isn’t as sharp. As for the 3D print, it came out great, with no stringing or issues of any kind. I used Bambu Labs PLA black.

Nice print but just make sure you have the right version of the game. These did not fit our version.

Really nice design. I was at first opposed to printing a new paper player mat because I wanted to use the original. I realized no matter what I tried to do I could never get the cubes to sit nicely using a tight grid on the original. After trying this design I was sold. I did however have a small problem with the sizing of the top/bottom joining together. The top seemed to be too large for the tray it sits in in both directions. I designed my own bottom plate using similar specs from the one shown with my own pattern. You can get an idea from the attached photos. Thumbs up and thank you!

I love this concept unfortunately the boxes don’t all quite line up with my players boards but it still works as an over lay.
