Ikea UPPATVIND carbon filter addon

A mod for the cheap and cheerful Ikea Uppatvind air purifier to add VOC filtering capabilities. The original Uppatvind comes with a dust and pollen filter perfect for a desk or to sit in a shelf. This model extends the depth of the purifier adding space for carbon media. The order of filtration is such that the air passes first through the dust and pollen filter and only then traverses the carbon media. This extends the life and increases the effectiveness of the carbon media using the paper filter as a pre-filter. The carbon media should be put inside the 2 meshed containers with lid. I recommend you also use a meshed bag to contain the media inside the printed part to better contain the media. The mod adds just 25 mm to the depth of the original and is barely noticeable. The original Upptavind is pretty compact and only $35 at Ikea; its dust filters are around $12. The carbon media is also reasonably affordable in bulk, making this a nice solution for small spaces.

If you import the original files, note to orient the pins facing up. The automatic orienting should give you the right option.
