Dust Defender: CNC Router Dust Collection System

The Dust Defender is a 3D-printed dust collection system designed to enhance the performance of CNC router tables equipped with 65mm spindles, such as the Makita router on the Shapeoko. It efficiently captures and removes dust and debris generated during CNC operations, ensuring a cleaner and safer workspace.

Key Components:

• Main Shoe: Fits securely around the 65mm spindle, providing a sturdy base for the dust collection system.
• Rear Clamp: Holds the main shoe firmly in place, preventing movement during machining.
• Magnetically Attached Dust Boot: Attaches to the main shoe via strong neodymium magnets, allowing easy removal for tool changes.
• Dust Collection Hose Adapter: Connects seamlessly to a standard 2.5-inch dust hose, directing debris into your dust collection system.

Additional Materials Required:

• 5mm CNC dust brush
• 20 neodymium magnets (8x5mm)
• 4 M4x16mm socket head screws
• 4 M4 heat set inserts

Assembly Instructions:

1. Install Heat Set Inserts: Insert M4 heat set inserts into the rear clamp using a soldering iron or heat gun.
2. Attach Main Shoe and Rear Clamp: Secure the main shoe around the spindle and fasten it with the rear clamp using M4x16mm screws.
3. Install Magnets: Place 8x5mm neodymium magnets into the designated slots in both the main shoe and dust boot, ensuring correct polarity for proper alignment.
4. Affix Dust Brush: Attach the 5mm CNC dust brush to the bottom edge of the main shoe with a few drops of superglue.
5. Connect Dust Boot: Position the dust boot so the magnets snap it into place on the main shoe.
6. Attach Hose Adapter: Connect the dust collection hose adapter to the dust boot and secure a 2.5-inch dust hose with a hose clamp.

Maintenance:

• Regularly remove the dust boot to clean any accumulated debris.
• Inspect magnets to ensure they maintain a strong connection and replace if necessary.

The Dust Defender is compatible with any CNC router that uses a 65mm spindle, including trim routers from DeWalt and other suppliers. It provides an efficient solution for dust collection, promoting a cleaner and more productive workspace.
