Description

Note: you can find a revised split print pirate duck here : jeep ducks - Pirate Duck (split)
this is incase you aren't into painting and don't have an AMS.

My wife recently got a Jeep Willis, and now she's on the Ducks in the Jeep train…
So I thought I would make a few custom ducks for here.  Here is one of the first ones to come out.  The Pirate Duck.
Arrrrrr.  A pirate duck's life for me!

added an eye patch with a head strap.  Cut the top off the head to allow for a separately printed hat to print with a better lower surface.  Added a cross body strap and a cutlass and flintlock pistol.

I would suggest something a bit more heat resistant than PLA, as these guys sitting on the dash may bake a bit.  I print with Yellow PETG as I have found painting yellow is not fun…

I have made multi-color print profiles for most of my ducks, if anyone is interested in testing and printing one, let me know.  If you share the pictures of the final print, I can then post the multi-color print profiles.  For now, I don't have the color range, or an AMS to test them.

Opted to print the duck body in single color for time. Loved the fact that is is a multi part model. All pieces fit together well and I used a bit of super glue to keep them in place. Minimal supports are necessary for his sword and pistol but they pop off with ease. Printed in numkars PLA plus on an A1 mini

Nice. Glad you like it, it's actually one of my first, and one of my favorites. Great looking print!

I do have an AMS ready version, but since I don't have an AMS, I can't print then post the print profile. Feel free to post your print profile here if you want to share.

This is a cute print. My painting skills at 63 yo aren't the best. The parts fit together fabulously! Can you design an AMS print for the eye patch and eyes? Edited to add: A1 mini, PLA.

I've got an AMS and with the new Bambu update, coloring is a little easier. That doesn't make the print time any shorter when working with a P1S. My first go around was a fail due to excessive poop buildup causing the tool head to come off and for some reason that shifted the whole top of duck. But the second go around looks pretty good. the bottom of hat wasn't flat on build plate so that makes it kind of rough but it'll work. Let me know if you wanna attach this print profile.

Just curious what program you use to design your ducks? I just got my first printer, and the captain of the pirate crew I belong to wants one very similar but with a goatee.. to be reminiscent of our crew flag..

I use Blender to create my ducks. If you can send me an image of what you mean, I can add it.

I was just looking to add a simple goatee to the bottom of the bill.

Confused. Why put a plug on the head that you just have to later cut away. I thought there would have been a corresponding hole in the hat. Not a great design.

I don't get why you mean. The tab on the head fits the hole in the hat. Also, by making it a hexagon, it helps to make sure the hat is put on the right way. Screen shot below is from the single color print profile listed with this model. Can you please explain better if you are talking about some other part? The hole is supported, so you have to remove the support material...

What was the reason for not doing everything in one piece? I saw a crocodile duck that was oriented up, tail bottom, beak top.

with the round shape of the head, there is no orientation that would not require supports. Also, with the hat separate, there are less color swaps printing this via AMS in multi-color. I have prepared a profile to do that, but I don't have an AMS. Much like having the beak separate, I found it gives an overall cleaner print (less visible support areas).

I have an AMS version, but I don't have an AMS, so I cannot print a test before posting it. Message me. I can share the AMS version with you, and you can print it and share the pictures. I can then post the AMS version here too.

Going on a cruise soon and I would love to make some of these in the multi color print profile. Would you be able to share that? Thank you so much! Such a cool design!
