A Truly Everyday-Usable 3D Printed Folding Fan

Why Is That So?

This version boasts a remarkable 44,000 mm² effective surface area without compromising weight through perforations, weighing only 75 grams. Employing a more rigid filament for a thinner design could even reduce the weight to approximately 64 grams

Comparison:

  • Industrially Manufactured Folding Fan of Similar Size: 44,000 mm² effective surface area, 33 grams
  • Most 3D Printed Folding Fan Models: Effective surface area no greater than 33,200 mm², weight exceeding 100 grams (a veritable workout!)

Additional Materials

Needle and thread

(No adhesive required)

Printing Considerations

Multi-Color Printing:

Calibrate the first layer before printing, ensuring a smooth and complete initial layer to prevent under-extrusion or over-extrusion (otherwise, this will result in gaps between patterns)

Monochromatic Printing:

In your slicer's preview, add pause commands to specific layers:

  • Fan Blades: Pause printing at the 2nd layer.
  • Small Pendant: Pause printing at the 5th layer.

😀🤳

First, print with color 1 to the pause layer

After pausing, manually change the filament to color 2 and continue printing the remaining layers to achieve a multicolor effect

General Considerations:

1. Calibrating the first layer to eliminate elephant’s foot significantly enhances performance, including installation difficulty, print quality, and the durability of the binding

2. A 0.2 mm gap has been pre-allocated for ease of assembly

3. Utilize the standard version with softer filaments

(Testing indicates that most PLA filaments maintain sufficient strength when printing the thinner version. We recommend selecting the appropriate print version based on your filament's strength)

4. A total of 20 fan blades need to be printed

For any issues, leave a comment, and I will respond promptly

For assembly instructions, please refer to the included guide, or search “folding fan stringing tutorial” on video platforms

Example materials: Rambo Gold PLA, Kexcelled Matte Black PLA (beginners are advised to use filaments of the same brand and model, but different colors)

4.20 Update: Due to certain well-known reasons, the multicolor print version has been removed. If you are a highly skilled 3D printing enthusiast with extensive calibration experience and desire a dual-sided pattern, you can create a multicolor version yourself using coloring and duplication tools
