Description
Fireball XL-5 (untested) flying model rocket.
WIP NOTES:
12-5-18 - Added decal PDF file for printing a single and double set of XL-5 decals. Also included Silhouette Studio files if you happen to have one and want to cut the decals out.
- Created a thin body shell for the center of XL-5 - looks FAB in Silver!! You need to print it in VASE mode so it's super thin and light.
- After printing it in a nice silver I saw serious problems with the original Fireball Jr mesh so I fully rebuilt it. The new version prints beautifully now.
I'm using CC3D Silk Silver PLA for this and it's awesome. http://a.co/d/b0CpHTO Parts you will need to complete this
196 mm of Estes BT-50 body tube
68 mm of Estes BT-20 body tube
Shock cord
12" to 14" Parachute
Nose weight (clay or lead pellets)
The launch lugs can work on a typical rod or small rail.
Post-Printing
You will need to use supports along the fins

Supports needed for the fins - to get really nice detail I print this at .05 layer height.

The BT-20 is glued to the motor mounts with the forward one acting as a motor block.

Tie a small knot into the shock cord, then tape that to the BT-20 motor tube.

Feed the shock cord into the BT-50 tube and glue the motor mount into the BT-50 so that the nozzle fits onto the tube.

Glue the BT-50 into the fin can aligning the rockets with the corresponding rocket nacelles on the fin can.
