Description

The Aircraft

Short Stirling

Development Background: The Stirling was the first four-engine heavy bomber in the RAF’s fleet, designed to meet the Air Ministry’s specification in the mid-1930s. Its short wingspan, dictated by a restriction on hangar space, limited its service ceiling and load capacity compared to later bombers.

Interesting Facts:

  • Though it couldn’t fly as high as the Lancaster or Halifax, the Stirling was exceptionally maneuverable for its size.
  • Its design allowed it to carry a larger number of smaller bombs, which made it more suitable for tactical missions like rail and airfield bombing.
  • Later in the war, it was used for towing gliders during D-Day and other operations, as well as a transport for paratroopers.

The Model

Went together well without glue, but a little extra security never hurts with these. Enjoy this classic WWII bomber in this simplified form. If you have any problems, please feel free to reach out.
