This 3D-printed Boatswain (or Bosun) whistle is a modern take on a historic nautical tool that has its origins in Great Britain, dating back to the 1300s. The design reflects the traditional structure, featuring a long tube (known as the "gun") with a mouthpiece on one end and a rounded chamber (the "buoy") on the other. A flat plate underneath (the "keel") strengthens the connection between the gun and the buoy.
Boatswain whistles were historically used aboard sailing vessels to issue orders, signal warnings, and perform ceremonial tasks, as their piercing sound could be heard over crashing waves. They were also prominently crafted by silversmiths around 1600, with hallmark systems identifying the year and country of origin.
This whistle combines tradition and functionality, perfect for enthusiasts of maritime history or anyone looking for an elegant, ceremonial whistle.
