Description

Mute holder for your metal music stand.  Now will support for both Manhasset and Wenger model stands.

These fit perfect on my Manhasset #48 at home, and there is now a second print file for Wenger brand stands.  These holders clip onto the lip of the stand. I find it convenient for practices at school or wherever, as it clips on and off quickly and easily. I use it for straight and cup mutes.

Print Instructions:

  1. First determine your model of stand.  There are separate print profiles for Manhasset (with a flat lip) and Wenger (with a crimped lip) stands.
    1. The Manhasset model fits very well on every Manhasset stand I've tried it on, but absolutely will not fit on a Wenger stand.
    2. The Wenger model fits very well on the Wenger stands, and fits pretty OK on Manhasset stands.  I prefer to have two sets, but it is possible to just use the Wenger model on both.
  2. What mutes do you want to use?  There are three size holders:
    1. 60mm: Works great for smaller mutes such as Trumpet Straight and Cup Mutes.
    2. 84mm: Works great for larger mutes such as Trumpet Harmon, Wow Wow, or Bubble Mutes.
    3. 110mm: Works for larger Horn Mutes
  3. Print the holder for your size and stand.  Then snap the insert ring into the holder!  Alternately for a softer touch and less noise, print the matching ring size from TPU and use that in place of the ring that prints with the holder.

UPDATE: I added two more sized holes, to fit your larger mutes.  The 60mm size is the standard which works for most Trumpet mutes.  84mm works fine for a harmon mute (due to the weighting of that mute you still need to be careful though).  110mm is set up for your larger instrument mutes - hopefully this should work for french horn and trombone mutes, but let me know!

UPDATE: I added two side hooks that can be put along side the mute holder and let you hang anything you want from them.

UPDATE: Updated the models to be pre-supported and print in two pieces.  This 1) dramatically improves print quality, and 2) allows for a new TPU insert to be used (optional) which makes the mute holder much less noisy when inserting the mute during a quiet passage.  The holders themselves are now slightly wider, but the inside geometry remains the same, so older accessory cups will still fit.  Additionally, the accessory cups have been updated to flush fit into the updated holders.

this is great! do you by any chance know how I could make something like this for a derby mute?

I added a print profile with a large hook that I use for my headphones. Would probably work for a derby mute. I don't have one to try, but let me know if it does! Might need the hook moved forward for easy access - I can do that if you say it'll help...

Great print. Fits just right on my Manhasset. I play (French) Horn, and the mute holder holds my stop mute just right. I am new to the 3D world and have tried to modify this for my horn mute, but I can't quite get it. I'd love a mute holder with a 110mm hole and a hook on the side to hang my straight mute. Checking my hubby's trombone mute, I think that would work for those, too. I printed the Apple Pencil cup and love it. I wasn't quite sure what the 2nd pencil sized hole was for, so I punched it out and put my screwdriver in there (horns - we restring rotors a lot ;) The lip balm hole is just a smidge too small to hold a bottle of ProElite Oil, but my Hetman fits in the larger opening. As with @AlanofSmith, I had a little spot to sand off, but it was minimal.

Nice! Does your straight mute have a string or something to hang it from? Trying to picture what size the hook needs to be... The second smaller hole was for holding the cap when you have to plug it in to charge it. One of these days Apple is going to make us all upgrade our iPads and we're going to get the gen 2 pencils with easier charging :)

Ah - yes. Luckily, I couldn't afford the iPad Pro until about a year ago, so I have a 2nd generation pencil. Both my straight and stop mute have straps, but the straight mute (bigger) is easier to grab from the base. Certainly, it'd be easier for the print to just do the existing mute holder with hooks off both sides, though.

Check out the updated main print profile file - I added 84mm and 110mm hole sized mute holders. I also added two side hook that might work for you. I kept the hooks a separate parts so everything would print cleaner. Let me know!

Good print. It is a little rough where the filler was but that is easily sanded off. it slid easily onto the side of my Mahassett music stand. I am hoping you can resize this for a trombone mute. I am playing a musical next month and a couple of these would ease this quick mute changes.

I added two larger sized holes: one is 84mm and one is 110mm. Let me know if they work for you!

I have printed 2 of these on my Ender 3 - I don’t have a Bambu (yet). This is an excellent model. My first I did as a prototype with pretty low quality settings to make sure the 84 mm version would fit my horn mutes. The low quality one was perfect, the higher quality one took some time, but is both great looking and fits the stand and mutes perfectly. I am now making 2 more for my section in the community orchestra. I especially like the included supports, which make for great quality and easy removal. This may be the best model design that I have printed. I will be printing the cup for my valve oil and Apple Pencil next. Thanks!

Wenger Mute Holders (Pre-supported)
These have worked great for me. Printed in black Elegoo PLA+ on a P2S. I've used both the Wenger and Manhasset profiles. I bring the Wenger with me to shows because they tend to function as a more universal fit to whatever stands are provided. I have purchased a number of the Amazon Basics Portable Sheet Music Stands (despite the name, they are not very portable; they are not the one with foldable legs) for home which appear very similar to the Manhasset, but the shelf is a bit deeper so the Manhasset profile does not fit without a mallet (and becomes difficult to remove). The Wenger fits, though with quite a bit of play. I may try my hand in the future at modifying the model to fit the Amazon stand, but until then, this works great!

Thanks! What's the depth of the tray on the Amazon one? In theory I can adjust the parameters of the model and get one pretty easily for it. I just need the depth of the tray measured with calipers.

I got 2.292" on my calipers. Let me know if you need metric, I might have metric calipers floating around here somewhere. My measurement of the inside of the model for the Manhasset would suggest it's desperately close. Probably just where that curve hits on the back side, it's making it just a touch too tight. Happy to run some test prints to help dial it in if you're able to come up with something. Thanks!

I printed 5 of these for my wife's trumpet section and they all loved them! Really helped when they had to take their mutes in and out really fast in their concert. My wife added some fabric on the inside so it wouldn't be so loud when you put the mute in, but the print worked great.
