Description

PAZAAK

Hello fellow outlaws and scoundrels, directly from the cantinas of a galaxy far far away here it comes the card game of Pazaak!

Pazaak is a strategic gambling game (loosely based on blackjack) that has been introduced as an in-game minigame within the acclaimed videogame series Knights Of The Old Republic and its sequel Knights Of The Old Republic II (kotor and kotor2 for short).

I enjoyed very much collecting the cards within the videogame and enjoyed more winning the games to progress in the story so I decided to model and 3D print the cards for all of you to enjoy it as well.

First the rules

  • There is a main deck of 40 cards with value ranging from 1 to 10 (4 of each value)
  • The game is divided in rounds and the winner is whoever wins 3 rounds first
  • Each player has also 4 extra cards that are randomly drawn from a side deck (one for each player) of 10 cards at the start of the game
  • Each player alternate in drawing from the main deck and placing the drawn cards in front of them
  • The goal is to reach 20 (summing up the total of drawn and played cards) before busting
  • After a card from the main deck is drawn the player may choose to play one additional card from their hand to modify the current score
  • After that the player can:
    • stand: that will be their final total till the end of the round
    • end turn: the opponent will draw a card and play accordingly till the end of their turn.
  • The side deck is composed of 10 cards that the player can chooses at will between:
    • plus (+) cards ranging from +1 to +6
    • minus (-) cards ranging from -1 to -6
    • plusminus (+/-) cards ranging from +/- 1 to +/- 6
  • There are also special golden cards that are more advanced
    • a card with a value that can be eith +/- 1 or +/- 2
    • a card that mimics (Double) the value of the last card drawn
    • a card that switches +2 and +4 to -2 and -4 and vice versa (for every player)
    • a card that switches +3 and +6 to -6 and -6 and vice versa (for every player)
    • a +/- 1 card that will give you the winning title if the round is tie (tiebreaker)

You can also check the rules at the wookiepedia or play an online game.

The cards are divided into 5 plates

  • plate 1 - the main deck - print it 4 times
  • plate 2 - plus cards - print 2 times (one for each player)
  • plate 3 - minus cards - print 2 times (one for each player)
  • plate 4 - plus/minus cards - print 2 times (one for each player)
  • plate 5 - advanced cards (optional) print 2 times (one for each player)

I also created other print profiles:

  • a box to store the card
  • An optional stuff one containing
    • a coin with rebel / imperial symbol to choose who starts first
    • a side deck holder to keep the 4 cards of your side deck (print one for each player)
    • two boards (one for each player) to keep better track of played / drawn cards and of overall won rounds

Have fun playing Pazaak and Happy Printing!
