The JF-17 Thunder (Chengdu FC-1/JF-17), originally codenamed "Super 7", is known as the FC-1 in China and the JF-17 Thunder in Pakistan. It is a single-engine, single-seat, multirole light fighter jointly developed by China and Pakistan, with investment from both countries. The aircraft was developed by Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), Chengdu Aircraft Industry (Group) Co., Ltd., Chengdu Aircraft Design Institute, China National Aero-Technology Import & Export Corporation, and others, with participation from the Pakistan Air Force. It is an all-weather, single-engine, single-seat, multirole light fighter.

The JF-17 Thunder was designed in May 31, 2002, and made its first flight on August 25, 2003. Utilizing modern design and manufacturing technologies, the FC-1 achieves the comprehensive combat effectiveness of a third-generation fighter, capable of contending with contemporary advanced fighters. It also possesses the advantages of being lightweight, compact, and low-cost, fully meeting the demands of modern warfare and the international market for military aircraft.

The JF-17 Thunder is the first Chinese aircraft to be licensed for production abroad in its entirety. It has been deployed in large numbers by the Pakistan Air Force and has garnered interest from numerous other countries for purchase.
