Description

 Overview:

The XY Gantry System of the FP CNC. It can be fully 3d printed, with only 8, 12mm m3 bolts to hold together. It is extremely rigid as seen in the gifs. The entire thing is printed in pieces with 0.2 mm layers and every part can fit on the X1 Carbon build plate. I designed this to achieve my goal of a fully 3d printed wood cutting CNC (my experimental Dremel attachment can be seen in the pictures). The Z axis mounting plate can easily be modified to fit a pen plotting mechanism or a laser engraving module: The motor size is Nema 17 which attach directly to the threaded rods. The motors I used are STEPPER ONLINE Nema 17 Bipolar 1.5A 42Ncm 1.8deg and I cannot guarantee that any other motors will fit as precisely as these. As this is the first working version, please add any problems you encounter in the comments.

Print Orientations:

The threaded rods should be oriented pointed straight up and supports are only required for the non-threaded part at the bottom. The guide rods should be printed in a way that they are lying flat against the build plate. Everything else is self-explanatory. Just orient them in the way that the layer lines look on the picture.

Not 3d Printed Pieces Required:

  • 8 12mm m3 bolts with the corresponding nuts.
