Dornier Do 17 World War II German Bomber Warbird Model Kit
Print Profile(1)

Description
The Aircraft
Development Background: Nicknamed the "Flying Pencil" due to its slim, elongated fuselage, the Do 17 was initially designed as a high-speed mail plane in the early 1930s. It later evolved into a bomber for the Luftwaffe, chosen for its speed and agility. The Do 17 played a critical role in the early Blitzkrieg campaigns.
Interesting Facts:
- The Do 17’s narrow fuselage made it difficult for enemy gunners to target effectively, contributing to its early success.
- It was one of the main bombers used during the Battle of Britain, though it eventually became obsolete as more advanced bombers, like the Ju 88, entered service.
- Later models were modified for roles like reconnaissance and night fighting, extending their service life in the Luftwaffe.
