Description
The Aircraft
Development Background: Initially designed by Siegfried and Walter Günter at Heinkel Flugzeugwerke in 1934, the Heinkel He 111 was meant to serve as a "fast" bomber, under the guise of a civilian airliner to comply with the Treaty of Versailles' restrictions on Germany's rearmament. The aircraft was introduced into the Luftwaffe as a medium bomber, and its speed and range made it an ideal tool for the early phases of the war.
Interesting Facts:
- The He 111’s "greenhouse" nose, which became a defining feature, was actually a late addition in an attempt to improve the pilot's visibility.
- It was heavily involved in the Battle of Britain, where it served as one of the main Luftwaffe bombers during the intense bombing campaigns against London and other British cities.
- Despite its success early on, the He 111 became increasingly vulnerable to faster Allied fighters as the war progressed, highlighting the rapid advancement in aviation technology during the conflict.
The Model
Goes together beautifully! Shouldn't require any super glue, but if it does, first check that the print order is inner/outer. Use the stand linked below or the suspension loop at the top to hang it.
Here's the stand that I used in the photos: https://makerworld.com/en/models/588924#profileId-510254
