Description

I’ve designed this lint roller with a secret compartment to stash away small valuables like cash or other items at home.

Fits IKEA Lint remover sticky papers.

Hopefully, you’ll never need to worry about theft, but if someone does try, they probably won’t think to check the lint roller for valuables.

No assembly needed; it is designed to be printed in place for the whole body. Only the cap is printed separately due to the designed threads.

Even though it functions perfectly as a lint remover, I wouldn’t rely on it for heavy-duty use. Its main purpose is as a secret hideout for valuables. The nature of 3D printing means it has some weaknesses, like layer separation, so applying too much pressure could break the handle.

I printed several prototypes in both PLA and PETG. I found PLA to be more effective due to its stiffness.

I advise using a smooth bed plate (if you have one) with glue or 3D Lac applied for the best bed adhesion. Item has a small bed surface, so you must ensure it stays adhered to the hotbed.

Designed Features:

  • No supports needed
  • The entire body, including the handle, prints in one piece. Inside the handle’s tube, there’s built-in support to hold it steady during the higher layers, preventing print defects.
  • Only the lid is printed separately because of the threads.
  • There’s a brim designed into the bottom for added stability during printing, reducing the need for extra setup in your slicer.

Printing Setup:

I advise using a smooth bed plate with glue or 3D Lac applied for the best bed adhesion. It is a small bed surface, so you must ensure it stays adhered to the hotbed.

  • Layer height: 0.2 mm
  • Infill: 15%
  • Infill pattern: Gyroid

Speed: Recommended outer and inner wall speed is 120mm/s

(Adjust based on your patience. I’ve printed at speeds from 100-250, and all worked fine. YOU MUST avoid high speeds for the handle to reduce vibrations, possible print defects or print item to separate from the hotbed during the print)

Preferred Material: PLA

No Supports Needed

Brim: no brim (it is designed into the item already, because I know some users would go and slice the files on their own and forget to setup brim, and the print would fail at higher layers bu separating from the hotbed… ask me how I know? Lol)

Slow down for overhangs (under speed setup): Yes

After Printing:

  1. Remove the brim.
  2. Hold the handle of the lint remover firmly with one hand and the main body with the other. Slowly start to rotate the handle until you feel the tiny (0,2mm cross) support designed into the tube of the handle breaks off, allowing the handle to rotate freely.

3. Take the sticky papers from your favorite lint remover and attach them to your new lint remover. Do not push the papers by holding the handle. Push from the rear side of the main body to avoid putting too much pressure on the handle. (I used IKEA lint remover sticky papers as they are readily available in our home.)

4. Close the secret chamber with the printed cap.

5. Push the main body by pressing the now attached cap to align it with the sticky paper’s end, completely hiding the secret compartment.
