Description

I’m putting together a 3D-printed Catan set, and I found that the number tokens out there weren’t quite what I was looking for. They just weren’t customizable enough, and I wanted something that matched the look and feel of the original game. I started by making a few small adjustments to the available designs, but it quickly snowballed, and before I knew it, I’d gone down the rabbit hole of creating my own design in OpenSCAD from scratch.

Features of the included profile:

  • Compatible with the base game and Dakanzla's 3D Catan model https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2525047
  • Optimized for printing with a 0.4mm nozzle; letters print best at a 0.3mm line width (achievable with 0.4mm nozzle).
  • Font similar to the original game (Minion Pro) for a consistent look.
  • Designed with five colors but easily customizable to use four or fewer. You can also pause at 0.8mm for a manual color switch.
  • Allows customization of colors for each element: letter, letter background, number, and number background.

This model is fully parametric, allowing you to tailor the tokens to your preferences. The OpenSCAD source file is included and fully documented for easy modifications. Sadly, the features I'm using are not available in MakerWorld's customizer. You'll have to use OpenSCAD nightly directly with lazy union and text metrics features enabled.

Filament I used (All from PolyTerra):

  • back colors:
    • base game: Army Brown
    • 5-6 player exp: Muted Red
    • seafarers exp: Sapphire Blue
  • letters: Savannah Yellow
  • red numbers: Lava Red
  • black numbers: Charcoal Black
