Edit 22/01/25 - i have added a template for the glass cutting - cut to the outer edge of the template.

Bring Time Travel to Your Desk – 3D Printable Flux Capacitor (Back to the Future-Inspired)

Great Scott! Take your 3D printing projects to the next level with this meticulously designed, display-ready flux capacitor model, inspired by the iconic prop from Back to the Future. Perfect for 3D printing enthusiasts, sci-fi prop collectors, and fans of the legendary time-travel trilogy, this model combines nostalgic charm with innovative design.

Key Features:

  •
  • Support-Free Printing: Skip the hassle of supports! Designed for efficient and clean printing, every piece of this flux capacitor fits together seamlessly. your print will snap together easily when using a well-calibrated printer. Optional use of a spot of glue is recommended for added stability over time.
  • Immersive LED Lighting: Create a dazzling display effect using 12V COB LEDs beneath printed transparent PETG "bulbs." Enjoy a realistic glow that brings the flux capacitor to life, transforming your display into a true conversation starter.
  • Customizable Outer Box: Choose from two outer box designs based on your needs! One variant is optimized for the stated hardware with thoughtfully placed holes to support wire routing, while the other box comes with a clean surface, ready for you to modify to your unique requirements. use negative modifiers in Bambu Studio to create custom size holes for your own hardware.
  • Wire-Friendly Design: With cleverly hidden channels and stand-offs, wiring and cable management is a breeze. This ensures your lighting setup remains neat and professional-looking.
  • Display Quality: While not made to scale, this model perfectly captures the essence and “wow factor” of the original prop, making it an impressive addition to any fan's display shelf.

Hardware Requirements (Not Included):

Easy Assembly

Assembly is straightforward, but if you get stuck, please reach out.

The Led Strip sticks to the “Brass” Section, and the wires run down the channel.into the lower box, the transparent crystal then slots on above the LED, hope this helps.

Thank you for creating it!!!! Since the PTFE tubing was too expensive for me, I designed the tubes myself. https://makerworld.com/en/models/1389328

Wasn't a fan of the flat sparkplug caps so I grabbed them from another model. I also used mini addressable leds so I could have two rows and more effects. I did have to scale down to 93.33% to fit my ender but it looks good in my BTTF shrine. I am using WLED to control the lights.

It's worth trying out these settings for the 'Bulbs' - sure it takes longer (a LOT longer), but the result is VERY clear pieces - without any support lines. These are mine - pre-sanding and polishing. They look like frosted glass... https://www.reddit.com/r/BambuLab/comments/10z7p4s/printing_glass_transparent_petg_my_findings/#lightbox
