Snowy Landscape from "Aunt Arctic Adventure"
This 3D-printed snowy landscape is a nostalgic tribute to the computer game Aunt Arctic Adventure, a project I had the pleasure of working on in the past. The model features the iconic characters Charlie the Chimpanzee and Pete the Penguin on their quest to find Aunt Arctic at the North Pole. It makes a perfect display model for the holiday season and is a must-have for fans of retro Amiga games.
Design Features
- Detailed Snowy Landscape:
- Inspired by the classic pixel art of Amiga games, the landscape showcases an uneven snow surface with small icebergs, capturing a wintry atmosphere.
- The base is slightly curved, ensuring stability while casting intriguing shadows under various lighting conditions.
- Characters Charlie and Pete:
- Charlie the Chimpanzee stands on a small ice ledge, leaning forward as if searching the horizon.
- Pete the Penguin is perched at the edge of a snow cliff, wings spread, as though ready to take off.
- The figures are designed for easy printing but retain enough detail to be instantly recognizable as characters from the game.
- Scenery and Details:
- The landscape includes small details like snow mounds, footprints, and tiny ice shards, enhancing the icy setting.
- A signpost labeled “Northpole” recalls the directional elements from the original game.
Printing Instructions
- Material Choice:
- PLA in white and blue works well to create the winter landscape.
- Transparent PETG can be used for the icebergs and ice shards to achieve a translucent effect.
- Layer Height:
- A layer height of 0.2 mm provides a good balance between detail and print time.
- Infill:
- An infill of 10-15% is sufficient since the model mainly consists of flat surfaces.
- Support:
- Support material is only needed for the overhangs on the figures, particularly around Charlie's arms and Pete's wings.
- The base can be printed without any support.
- Scaling and Adjustments:
- The model can be easily scaled up or down depending on the desired size.
- The characters are separate pieces, allowing for individual printing and flexible placement.
- Post-Processing:
- The figures and details are easy to paint after printing. Use acrylic paints to bring the characters to life.
- To add realism to the snow, you can apply glitter effects or a white paint wash.
Conclusion
This 3D-printed snowy landscape brings back the adventure of Charlie and Pete and serves as a charming display piece for fans of classic computer games and retro gaming enthusiasts. It's a wonderful holiday project that evokes nostalgia and captures the essence of old Amiga titles.
