Blue Hawaii (13904) / Filament with spool / 1 kg

Description

This is a flexible, articulated dragon 🐲 It prints in place with no supports or assembly required. It can stand on its feet, open its mouth, and move and rotate its wings. This was one of my very first flexible designs - and it is still very wiggly and makes for a fun desk companion.

Since creating my first articulated models, I've learned a lot and continued to refine my designs. So if you enjoy this model, be sure to also check out my new and improved flexi designs (there is even a new dragon with more detail and improved poseability).

I've had 3d printer and been doing my own CAD work for about 15 years. I've never had any luck with print in place joints, but I just bought a Bambu X1C and this model was on the top of the models in the new app. I decided to give it a shot. The dragon was the second model I ever printed on the X1V, and WOW! This is one of the coolest kids I've ever printed. everything was astoundingly perfect and I couldn't believe I just got print and didn't have to mess with anything. I've made 4 now. Each of my kids had to have one. On the second one I did I tried to teach myself some of the features of Bambu studio. I did that one in two colors and it was gorgeous. I just printed my 4th for my oldest daughter. She wanted silver and I added the metallic blue eyes with gold iris. I absolutely love the model and the printer!

Looks amazing! Which silver filament is that? BTW, a heat gun will quickly clean up your stringing.

To avoid adhesion problems, what would you suggest? I’ve noticed that some people have had adhesion problems with the tips. I really want to print this model.

It took me 3 tries to print with Bambu Galaxy PLA - the right wing always came loose around layer 80. I switched to a textured plate and printed at 50% speed - that succeeded. Ultimately, my daughter loves it, but I don't like the flat wing edge, very pointy spines and that the wings and legs move as a single unit. It's a good model, but not great.

The quality of this design & it's movement are great. You don't often see this type movement in the wing. I'm heart broken though. the right wing came loose from the print bed 1/3 of the way up. I was asleep & haven't been able enable spaghetti detection on the P1S. So it printed on. Somehow it managed to print the top 1/4 of that wing. I'm going to give it to my grandsons as a wounded dragon. I began with a clean bed. I don't want to use glue if I can avoid it. I will try again. Different PLA.

Did you mod your P series with a microcontroller? Otherwise it can't do spaghetti detection out of the box like a factory X series. Did this end up printing for you?

I didn't. I realized later that I can't do spaghetti detection. It never did print properly. I really love the dragon design too.

I typically look for feedback so I know what to expect, I chose the "brim" version (the user painted specific regions, not just toggling brim on) and it came out great 👍 maybe that version above could help you too. Cleaned my PEI plate with dish soap, don't get skin oils on it, isopropyl alcohol etc.

Scaled to 85% to fit A1 Mini. Perfect!

PLA? Does it work? Also, those colors look awesome! I am hesitant to invest 4 hours printing this due to tolerances (joints welding themselves)

Yes, that’s PolyTerra PLA with Pastel Rainbow color. All joints function well with the scale!

Exquisitely beautiful, unfortunately a nearby explosion from Russian rockets disrupted the print of one wing

Used the supported version and just had one wing tip fail. Downloaded original verion and just added supports at bottom of wing and it printed perfect. Im guessing that the fails are down to the adhesion on individuals build plate and not the model.

I cannot rave about this file enough! the wings mouth and legs all move so smoothly and it looks beautiful! I love how easy it is to remove the brims and how it's instantly functional and looks great! I'm printing these for my kids and nieces and nephews for Easter. I may even print one for myself! Great job!!

also I'm not sure if you have any experience with two color filaments, if you don't though you should look up some videos online...as the direction and angle your print is facing will determine whether thr print is mostly one color or a mix of the two....there is a fidget you can print to figure out what angle to print at to achieve the desired colors. included pictures of the fidget i used sorry I dont remember the name of it but it was on this app
