Description

If we were to create a colony on Mars, what would the structures look like? We see a lot of dome-like structures and geometric shapes and sharp angles. We wanted to create a space habitat concept based on a geodesic dome design that was popularized by American architect Buckminster Fuller. He spent part of his life in southern Illinois as a teacher, and lived in one of the first dome homes in the country which would later be added to the National Register of Historic Places. The house in Carbondale, Illinois features Fuller's patented geodesic design, creating a truly unique, futuristic home design.

The R. Buckminster Fuller and Anne Hewlett Dome Home, located at 407 S. Forest Ave. in Carbondale, Illinois

Our Mars Geodesic Dome Habitat is inspired by Fuller's dome home. While our model is not an exact replica of the home, it uses a lot of the same design language and features to create our own version of the geodesic dome.

Just like our previous building designs, the model is roughly around a 1:64 scale.

  • The main body press fits onto the base (can be glued if you want the parts to stay together).
  • The geodesic dome roof is glued on top of the body.
  • The door and windows are press fit and glued to the body.
  • The satellite and exhaust fans are glued to the roof.

The print is very straightforward and easy, although, the body, satellite, door, and windows require supports. The model can be printed on the A1 mini and does not need the AMS-lite. Feel free to reach out with any questions and enjoy!
