Description

MT32 Pi Hat Box - Compact Enclosure for the MT32 Pi MIDI Hat Project

This is a custom-designed box for the MT32 Pi MIDI Hat, an open-source project replicating the legendary Roland MT-32 MIDI synthesizer. This project clones the Roland MT-32 using a separate board that connects to a Raspberry Pi, specifically the Raspberry Pi 3 Model A+ for its compact size.

Key Features

  • Perfectly shaped to fit all ports of both the MT32 Pi Hat board and the Raspberry Pi.
  • Secure assembly without the need for screws or glue; all parts snap together seamlessly to hold the circuit firmly in place.

Design and Print Details

The box consists of two parts: a cover (with "MT32" printed on it) and a base, designed to securely house both circuit boards. In the reference image, you can see representations of the internal circuits to illustrate how the components fit together.

Material and Print Recommendations

  • Material: PLA is suitable for this print, but PETG can be used for increased durability.
  • Wall Thickness: Varies from 1.5mm to 2mm. Full infill is recommended as the parts are primarily thin walls, minimizing the need for extra infill.
  • Printer Setup: The model is prepared in a 3mf file format, optimized for a Bambulab A1 printer.
  • Supports: Tree supports are recommended only on critical points, such as the shaped port cutouts, to enhance print quality.

Assembly Instructions

The parts simply snap together thanks to a specially designed clip system, allowing for quick and easy assembly without any additional tools or materials.

Update: Enhancements in Version 2

In this updated version of the MT32 Pi Hat Box, several improvements have been implemented to enhance both functionality and user experience:

  • Enhanced Design: The overall structure has been refined for improved aesthetics and usability.
  • Increased Wall Thickness: Walls have been thickened to 2mm, providing greater durability and strength.
  • Improved Closure Mechanism: The snap-fit system has been redesigned to ensure a more secure and reliable assembly without the need for screws or glue.
  • Expanded Port Accommodations:
    • Audio Jack: Additional space has been allocated around the audio jack area to facilitate easier access and compatibility with various cable sizes.
    • SD Card Slot: The SD card slot area has been enlarged, allowing for more convenient insertion and removal of the SD card.

These updates aim to provide a more robust and user-friendly enclosure for the MT32 Pi MIDI Hat, enhancing both protection and accessibility.
