Description

Version 3 now available for AMS 2 Pro and AMS HT autorotate drying.

Please note that the geometry has changed slightly in version 3. Funnel, cap and spout from version 1 & 2 are not compatible with verison 3. If you have already printed version 2, there is no reason to upgrade to version 3 unless you want to dry your silica in the new AMS 2 Pro or AMS HT using the autorotate function.

Version 2 now available! Does not require glue for assembly. Just print, assemble and enjoy!

This is the desiccant/silica spool shaped drying tray you're looking for. Included in the file is a threaded funnel for filling and a threaded spout for pouring. It can be used in filament dryers like the polydryer to recharge your desiccant (ABS or better recommended for high temp drying). The black model pictured was printed on a P1S with Bambu Lab ABS. The Yellow model was printed in eSun eABS+HS. It can fit in an AMS slot. It can be thrown in an airtight tub to keep your filament dry. It can hold over 1,250 grams of Dry & Dry brand silica desiccant. It prints on three plates. Plate 1: All threaded parts. Plate 2: Bottom. Plate 3: Top. This print does not require any supports. Version 1 will require super glue or your bonding agent of choice to assemble. Version 2 has a threaded top - no glue required - Just print and assemble.

This is my first model I have uploaded and would greatly appreciate your feedback and of course boosts if you find it useful. I created this model because I could not find one like it anywhere on the internet that I felt fully met my needs.

Enjoy and thank for your support!

Great model, thank you! As I said in the other comment, I've updated the funnel in order to store it inside the spool, and added some baffles on the lid.

Hi, the model looks quite successful. If possible, could you share the files for the additional parts you used?

printed great. easy to put together. I would suggest some baffles or paddles along the perimeter like in a clothes dryer to help mix the desiccant when it rotates

Thank you! I thought about adding baffles, but made it harder to pour out the silica.

That is a very good point. Heres a thougt how about they only went up half way on the Z axis, youd still get some mixing and just tilt it to one side to get the silica?

This is a great idea. I think maybe just adding one at the opposite side of the spout would help. But I wonder if the weight becomes uneven, would the spool still spin.

uuummm ... .... so it turns out have have an adhesion issue! great print though, the main body printed perfect, just doing the top section now, on a different plate 🫣 printed ted on a smooth plate with PETG, think I either had the bed temp too high or the adhesive surface wasn't applied to the plate correctly.

Thanks! Sorry about your plate, I’ve only printed on PEI.

did you remove the clear protective sheet film on both sides of the smooth plate first ? Looks like you left it on.

haha, yes that was certainly removed. I'd been printing on it for a few months beforehand. It's one of the plates with an adhesive build surface.

Printed great, took awhile but worth it. Everything fit perfectly and threads were great. I'm always impressed when threads are super smooth, I added a few drops of super glue around the threads just in case although I'd bet its totally fine without I was just more paranoid and scared of spilling desiccant everywhere. (which I've done a few times with other desiccant holders and cleaning that up was a pain)

Thank you for this v2. I applied a bit of glue just to be sure.

Excellent design, flawless print with ABS. Simply outstanding. I printed 2 pieces of this to alternate between collecting and drying in the container and still glued the thread as a precaution (I have had unpleasant experiences). I also designed a small stand for it so that the drying spools have a firm footing (I am happy to release the stand). Thank you very much

Addendum: The drying of my silica gel works excellently with my settings of 65° for 7 hours (when I am not home) and with a spool fill of approximately 80 percent. Flawless

Well designed. I printed it with PETG Clear. It looks beautiful to me. A couple strings from the last layer weren’t adhered. Don’t know if that’s due to my printer setting or overhang. Anyway, this doesn’t affect the function after trimming the strings off. Will use it in my next desiccant drying. Thanks for sharing.

Looks like a great design is printed mine out of Eryone PETG-CF. I opted to give it a few dabs of super glue to make sure the top doesn't pop off as there was some minor play. I have a new filament dryer on the way and will be testing this considerable once it arrives.
