Description
The European hedgehog (Erinaceus europaeus) is widespread throughout Germany. In the past, hedgehogs lived mainly in the countryside. Today, they are finding less and less habitat in our monotonous agricultural landscape – and are more often found in residential areas. However, they are also finding it increasingly difficult there: In tidied up and intensively cultivated gardens and parks, they lack retreats and food. Fences, high curbs and stairs cut off their access. But with the right protective measures, we can ensure the survival of these spiky creatures.
