Description

The 754 series locomotive is a diesel locomotive with electric power transmission, manufactured for the Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD) in the Prague locomotive factory ČKD in the years 1975–1980 under the designation T 478.4 as an improved version of the previous locomotive T 478.3, intended primarily for passenger and express transport. The locomotive was originally supposed to be produced much more, but as a result of an intentionally started fire at the ČKD Naftové motory plant in Prague-Smíchov in the summer of 1980, production was stopped after only 86 units had been produced. After the resumption of production, ČSD lost interest in the production of more locomotives and the order for further series was cancelled.
