Seven Continents Landform Teaching Model

Important Notice: Please carefully read this document before printing

1. Printing Instructions

(1) Verify the settings in your slicing software. This model utilizes D4x2 mm (CA001) magnets; before printing, confirm the pause layers are correctly added in the slicer preview. This instructional model employs inlaid magnets. Plate 1 [Asia] requires a pause layer at layer 13, Plate 2 [Europe, Oceania] at layer 16, and Plate 3 [America, Africa] at layer 15. Ensure the pause layer is the final layer before the magnet recess is sealed; avoid pausing after the recess is sealed!

(2) After pausing the print, insert the magnets into the corresponding holes (you can choose to fill all or only some holes). Testing indicates that filling all holes ensures strong adhesion to a blackboard.

(3) Resume printing after inserting the magnets.

2. Curriculum Alignment

This instructional model has been classroom-tested with the 2024 edition of the People’s Education Press textbook, Chapter 3, Section 1 (Continents and Oceans).

3. Note on Antarctica and Islands

(1) Antarctica: This model depicts only six continents; Antarctica is excluded because its outline varies considerably depending on map projection. In the classroom, I have students draw Antarctica's horizontal and overhead perspectives on the board, prompting discussion on why these differ and providing a brief introduction to map projections.

(2) Islands: Due to 3D printing constraints, islands cannot seamlessly connect to continents. Therefore, islands are omitted; this model serves only as a simplified outline, a point to be emphasized with students.
