Kobe Bryant (Kobe Bryant, August 23, 1978 – January 26, 2020), full name Kobe Bean Bryant Cox, was born in the United StatesPennsylvaniaPhiladelphia, a deceased American basketball player, who played as shooting guard/small forward. In the 1996 NBA draft, Kobe was selected 13th overall in the first round by the Charlotte Hornets and traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, playing for the Los Angeles Lakers throughout his entire NBA career; he won a total of 5 NBA championships, 1 NBA regular season MVP, 2 NBA Finals MVPs, 4 NBA All-Star Game MVPs, and 2 NBA scoring titles; he was selected to the NBA All-Star starting lineup 18 times, the NBA All-NBA Team 15 times (including 11 first teams, 2 second teams, and 2 third teams), and the NBA All-Defensive Team 12 times (including 9 first teams and 3 second teams). In 2007, Kobe was selected to the USA Men's National Basketball Team for the first time, and later helped the U.S. team win the 2007 FIBA Americas Championship gold medal, the 2008 Beijing Olympics men's basketball gold medal, and the 2012 London Olympics men's basketball gold medal. [91]
On November 30, 2015, Kobe announced that he would retire at the end of the season. [100] On December 19, 2017, the Lakers held a double jersey retirement ceremony for Kobe's No. 8 and No. 24 jerseys. [22] In March 2018, Kobe won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film for his short film Dear Basketball. [85]
On January 26, 2020 local time (January 27, Beijing time), Kobe died in a helicopter crash at the age of 41. [23] On April 5 of the same year, Kobe was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
