Description

This project features a 3D printed mask inspired by Lord Adraas, a powerful Sith from the Star Wars universe. The mask is designed to be a striking addition to any costume for a Halloween Party or Masquerade, perfectly aligned with the theme of this contest.

Design and Printing

The mask consists of three main pieces: one rear section that covers the back of the head, and two front pieces that are glued together after printing to form a solid and detailed structure. Each piece is designed for easy printing on an FDM printer, ensuring both durability and precision in the finer details.

File formats: The project is provided in .3MF format for optimal print setting management and in .STL format for universal compatibility with most FDM printers. Additionally, I’ve included an optimized print profile for PLA, ensuring the best balance between detail and strength.

Technical Details:

  • Mask dimensions: The mask fully covers the face and head, making it ideal for events like Halloween.
  • Recommended filament: PLA for ease of printing and post-processing, with options to experiment with different colors or materials for unique effects.
  • Supports: Yes, supports are required during printing, but they have been designed to be easily removable without damaging the surface of the mask.
  • Recommended resolution: 0.2 mm for a balance between speed and detail. For higher detail, especially in the intricate front sections, a 0.16 mm print profile can be used to capture even finer elements and achieve an exceptional finish.

Post-Processing

After printing, the three sections are glued together using cyanoacrylate or a plastic-specific adhesive. The mask can be sanded to remove any support marks, and the surface is ideal for painting with acrylic paints. I recommend using a combination of dark colors for the base, with metallic highlights to accentuate the Sith aesthetic, recreating the appearance of Lord Adraas. Additional accessories like LED lights or metal details can be added for an even more dramatic effect.

Photos and Renders

The project includes photos of the printed model, along with 3D renders that showcase the different sections of the mask and potential customization options with various color schemes and accessories. The images clearly display each stage of the project, from printing to post-processing, giving a clear idea of how the mask looks once completed.

Assembly Instructions

  1. Print the three pieces: Ensure each part is properly aligned and printed with the correct profile.
  2. Remove supports: Use gentle tools to remove the supports, especially in the more intricate areas of the front sections.
  3. Glue the pieces: Join the sections with strong adhesive, carefully aligning the edges for a seamless assembly.
  4. Sand and paint: Smooth the joints and apply primer to prepare the surface for painting. Use acrylic or metallic paints for an authentic Sith look.
  5. Add finishing touches: For those looking to elevate the mask further, LED lights or small accessories can be incorporated.

Conclusion This mask combines sophisticated design, ease of printing, and endless customization possibilities, making it a perfect fit for any costume event. Thanks to its three-part modular design, it is scalable and easy to assemble, even for those with limited 3D printing experience. The intricate details inspired by Lord Adraas make it a visually striking and unique piece. For those seeking even finer detail, using a 0.16 mm print profile will enhance the clarity of the design and result in an exceptionally smooth finish.
