Description

Introduction

A low friction bearing spool holder for the A1 printer, that complements the aesthetic of the printer, and is ideal for use when printing TPU.

I wanted a low friction spool holder for my A1 to use when I am printing TPU. Unfortunately all those I looked at had failed to include the appropriate clearances to allow the bearings to run freely, so either the roller would rub against the outer part of the bearing, the inner part of the bearing would rub against the holder, or both. So I set about designing my own that would eliminate these issues and also complement the aesthetic of the A1.

Important

It seems that there are some variations in the manufacture of the A1 spool holder with respect to the positioning of the threads. So while this fits perfectly for me, I cannot guarantee that the spool holder will be in the correct orientation when fully screwed in for all cases.

This only fits the original version of the A1 Spool Holder, not the revised one piece design that Bambu Lab introduced towards the end of 2024.

Dimensions

  • Spool holder is 100mm wide (excluding the threaded part
  • Roller will hold spools up to 68mm width

Instructions

  • Two 608ZZ bearings are required in addition to the printed parts
  • Print the two plates - note that it may be worth increasing the printing temperature by about 5° C to enhance the strength
  • Remove the support material, making sure that the bearing surfaces are clean
  • Place the bearings onto the ends of the roller - they should fit fairly easily
  • Insert the roller into the spool holder
  • Screw the spool holder into the A1 spool holder support frame

Featured Filaments

  • Spool Holder: Fiberlogy Easy-PLA - Gray
  • Roller: Fiberlogy Easy-PETG - Graphite

The Fiberlogy Easy-PLA Gray is the closest match to the colour of the A1 that I have found so far. It is slightly lighter than Hatchbox Matte PLA Gray, which is also fairly close.
