Description
Locomotives of the 753 series (nicknamed brejlovec, sometimes also troika, troika brejlovec) are four-axle diesel-electric locomotives, which, under the designation T 478.3, were delivered by the Prague locomotive company ČKD to the Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD) between 1968 and 1977 in a total number of 408 units and thus became one of the most numerous series of locomotives ever. The locomotives were replaced by steam locomotives in the beginning of operation and later by older types of engine locomotives. They were intended for passenger and freight transport, and the train sets were heated by a PG 500 type steam generator, manufactured at the Juran Works in Brno. Later, when passenger trains were heated electrically and newly delivered passenger cars were no longer equipped with steam heating, the machines were mainly used in freight transport.
